Yesterday we went to football, the australian version...The day before Kellie had introduced us to some of the rules (there aren't many) while we watched her team the Carltons beat Adelaide. We were really on for the game and went to Subiaco for dinner before going to the Oval. Since Kellies mum is a big fan of West Coast Eagles (and Ake Nilsson), we had to cheer for Fremantle just to tease them. The gang (minus photographer Maria) securing the obligatory beer outside the stadium:
Australian football is played in 4 qaurters, each 15 min but that is supposed to be the efficient time so normally one quarter is around 25 minutes. There is heaps of people on the field: 17 (18)players from each team, 7 referees, 2 yellow t-shirt guys running with messages from the coach to the players, 6 waterbottles boys/girls. These last two "sorts" are supposed to not interfere with the game. For swedes it looked like a confusing mess!
Malte got really scared when the game started and the crowd cheered for there teams, but after a while he clapped his hands every time Fremantle scored (which Annemarie didn't like:))) and jumped up and down in his bagpack. We cheared for the right team this night, Fremantle beat West Coast Eagles by 44 points! Here is Malte in his backpack from which he could see the game very well and he alse refused to go to sleep until the game was over... (Notice that Malte has temporarily been recrutied as an Eaglesfan)

So what to do on a monday? We took the new railway-line south to Rockingham for a visit to Penguin Island. We packed swimminggear, lunch, camera and looked forward to a day on the beach. It turned out to be a long journey there because we just missed every transportlink. Especially Malte thought so after 2,5 hours on buses and train. We had to wait for the boat for 15 minutes and since it just was 27 degrees outside today it got really chilly with the breeze from the southern ocean. When we finally got there we weren't that keen on swimming. There was a lot of birds flying around and Maria is not that keen on there company so after we had seen the penguins, done the glassbottomboattour looking at australian sealions on the beach (why do you need a glassbottomboat for to do that?) we headed back to Perth and the warm city.
Here is Malte looking at the Penguins which he liked very much (he was both silent and good):
Now we are packing for our trip south. Kellie will join us un thursday in Bunburry and then we will drive down to Margaret River. The area in Australia who does most of the quality wines!
